Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash’s wife and in-laws granted bail in abetment of suicide case. The court’s decision follows allegations of harassment leading to Atul’s tragic death. Investigation continues into the claims of extortion and abuse.
Bengaluru : In a significant development, the wife and in-laws of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash have been granted bail by a Bengaluru court in connection with an abetment of suicide case. The tragic incident occurred on December 9, when Atul Subhash died by suicide, allegedly due to harassment from his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family members.
The session court in Bengaluru granted bail to Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha Singhania, and her brother Anurag Singhania after they filed a petition for the same. Prior to this, they had approached the Karnataka High Court, which directed the session court to expedite the bail proceedings. The High Court’s intervention came after the petitioners requested that the session court dispose of the bail application.
The trio was arrested on December 14—Nikita was detained in Gurugram, while her mother and brother were picked up from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
Tragic Suicide and Allegations of Abuse
Atul Subhash, 34, left behind a chilling video and suicide note, detailing his marital issues, the harassment he endured, and extortion attempts by his wife, her relatives, and a judge based in Uttar Pradesh. In his note, Subhash accused his wife and in-laws of subjecting him to mental torture, which ultimately led him to take the drastic step of ending his life. He claimed that his wife demanded Rs 3 crore to settle their disputes, further intensifying the emotional and financial stress.
Subhash and Singhania, who married in 2019 and have a son born in 2020, had reportedly been facing marital troubles that led to the tragic turn of events.
Custody of Child and Family Disputes
In the aftermath of Atul Subhash’s suicide, his parents have requested custody of their four-year-old grandson, stating that they do not know his current whereabouts. Pawan Kumar, Subhash’s father, described his son as “broken from inside” due to the abuse he allegedly suffered from his wife and in-laws. He added that Subhash’s suicide note specifically mentioned that his parents should be granted custody of his child.
The father further claimed that his daughter-in-law treated their son as an “ATM,” pressuring him for money under the guise of caring for the child. Pawan Kumar alleged that his daughter-in-law made persistent demands for money, including a request for Rs 80,000, further compounding the family’s grief.
Supreme Court Involvement
The legal battle continues, with Subhash’s parents waiting for the January 7 hearing in the Supreme Court regarding the custody of their grandson. Atul’s lawyer, Akash Jindal, emphasized that the crime committed by the accused is severe and that the wife should not be allowed to use the child as leverage for her bail. The lawyer also confirmed that a habeas corpus petition had been filed in the Supreme Court, which had directed the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Haryana to locate the child. Once the child’s whereabouts are confirmed, the Supreme Court will issue directions for custody proceedings.
This ongoing case highlights the emotional turmoil and complex legal disputes surrounding the tragic death of Atul Subhash, while his parents seek justice and custody of their grandson.
