Bengaluru: A shocking incident unfolded on Thursday night in Bengaluru when a woman jumped out of a moving autorickshaw to escape a driver under the influence of alcohol.
According to the woman’s husband, they had booked an autorickshaw through the Namma Yatri app to travel from Horamavu to Thanisandra.
“My wife booked an auto from Horamavu to Thanisandra, but the driver, who was drunk, took her to the wrong location near Hebbal. Despite repeatedly asking him to stop, he didn’t listen. This forced her to jump out of the moving auto,” the man posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
The husband also expressed frustration over Namma Yatri’s poor customer support, claiming there was no emergency contact number available during the incident.
“The biggest issue with Namma Yatri is the lack of a proper system to address customer complaints. When we try to contact customer care, they ask us to wait for 24 hours. How can someone wait for 24 hours in an emergency? How safe are women in such situations?” he questioned the Bengaluru police.
The woman’s husband has urged the police to take strict action against the driver and ensure safety measures for passengers. Bengaluru police have promptly responded and launched an investigation into the matter.
Responding to the complaint, Namma Yatri issued a statement saying, “We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to your wife, and we hope she is doing well now. Please DM us the ride details, and we will investigate the incident immediately.”
