Karnataka High Court Rejects Wife’s Plea to Quash FIR in Atul Subhash Suicide Case

The Karnataka High Court on Monday rejected the plea of Nikita Singhania, wife of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, seeking the quashing of the FIR filed against her in connection with his suicide

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday rejected the plea of Nikita Singhania, wife of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, seeking the quashing of the FIR filed against her in connection with his suicide.

Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar, hearing the plea, ruled that the complaint against Nikita Singhania was valid, stating that there were apparent elements in the case suggesting she had incited her husband to take his own life. The court emphasized that there were sufficient grounds for the case to proceed.

During the proceedings, the defense lawyers argued that the court had granted bail to three of the accused individuals in the case and that there was no evidence to support the claim that Atul Subhash’s suicide was incited. They urged the court to dismiss the case, asserting that no grounds had been provided for the arrest of the accused.

However, the bench dismissed these arguments, stating that the FIR clearly outlined the alleged elements of suicide incitement. “All relevant details are provided in the FIR. What more can be added?” the bench questioned.

The court further inquired whether an investigation was ongoing and what evidence had been collected, including whether a death note or video related to the suicide had been found. Government lawyers confirmed that the investigation was still ongoing. The court instructed that all evidence collected so far be submitted and directed the parties to present any objections. The case was adjourned to January 21 for further proceedings.

Atul Subhash, a techie from Bengaluru, allegedly committed suicide, accusing his wife Nikita Singhania of demanding a dowry of ₹3 crore and subjecting him to mental harassment, which led to his tragic death.
