Severe Floods in Himachal Pradesh: Karnataka Offers 5 Crore Aid
Following devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh that destroyed homes and infrastructure, Karnataka announces ₹5 crore relief to support victims, while Prime Minister Modi pledges further central assistance.

Bengaluru: The mountainous state of Himachal Pradesh has been reeling from a series of natural disasters this year, including heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides. These calamities have claimed hundreds of lives, washed away thousands of homes, and severely damaged essential infrastructure. In a compassionate gesture, the Karnataka government announced a ₹5 crore relief fund to help the flood-affected population in Himachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and the immense destruction caused by the floods. In an empathetic letter addressed to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Siddaramaiah wrote, “When nature unleashes its fury, we must stand united in confronting its devastation. Karnataka stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Himachal Pradesh in their hour of need.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally surveyed the flood-affected areas during an aerial survey last Tuesday. He announced a significant financial aid package worth ₹1,500 crore from the central government to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in the region.
Thousands of residents in Himachal Pradesh remain displaced, grappling with loss of property, homes, and livelihoods. Local administration, in coordination with central and state forces, continues to engage in rescue operations, providing temporary shelters and basic necessities.
Infrastructure damage is widespread, with roads, bridges, and power lines severely impacted, further complicating relief efforts. The state government is working closely with disaster management authorities to expedite rehabilitation and ensure affected families receive immediate assistance.
This relief announcement by Karnataka reflects solidarity between Indian states during times of crisis, while the central government’s substantial financial support highlights the nationwide commitment to helping those in distress.
