Supreme Court Cancels Kannada Actor Darshan’s Bail Today, Major Setback in Case
The Supreme Court has delivered a major blow to actor Darshan by cancelling his High Court bail, ordering his immediate return to jail, and revoking bail for six other accused.

Kannada actor Darshan has suffered a major legal setback as the Supreme Court has cancelled the bail granted to him by the Karnataka High Court. The verdict came from a two-judge bench comprising Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan. This means Darshan will have to return to prison immediately — a decision likely to have a significant impact on his career.
The Supreme Court observed that there were flaws in the High Court’s order and that bail was granted on technical grounds. The bench stressed, “No matter how influential an accused may be, no one is above the law. Law enforcement must be upheld equally for everyone. Providing five-star treatment to accused persons in jail is unacceptable. The jail superintendent should have been suspended.” The court described the ruling as a “landmark judgment.”
Along with Darshan, the bails of co-accused Pavitra Gowda, Jagadish alias Jagga, Anukumar alias Anu, Pradosh, Nagaraju alias Naga, and Lakshman have also been cancelled.
Government lawyers stated, “The Supreme Court has accepted the evidence we presented. This is a significant decision. We highlighted the luxurious lifestyle in jail and the behaviour of the accused after their release.”
Darshan was arrested on June 11 last year and remained in jail for over four months. He was later released citing back pain, and in December, the High Court granted him full bail. The Karnataka government challenged this decision in the Supreme Court, which has now overturned it after several hearings.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had criticised the Karnataka High Court for its reasoning behind granting bail. Darshan, who had been enjoying his time outside, will now have to return behind bars — a development that has left many of his fans disappointed.
